I'm a mathematician, at least in some sense, so I guess it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to anyone that I like to play games. Here's how some of my gaming time is spent:
I spend lots of time playing backgammon on the First Internet Backgammon server (better known as FIBS) under the name Theone. In fact, I'm probably there right now! To try out FIBS for yourself, click here. For general information on backgammon, the WWW Backgammon Page is available.
I also spend some time playing chess. If I'm on the internet, I usually play on the Free Internet Chess Server. To access it, click here. On this server, I am also known as Theone. I also play chess face to face of course. My current USCF rating is 1798. Here is the United States Chess Federation
Where I'm living now I don't have a regular gaming group. Some of the board games that I do like to play are Cosmic Encounter, Titan, and Wiz-War. Of course, this is only a small sampling. I don't play bridge, but I like many other card games, especially Hearts.
I play games to hang out and have a good time. This means finding the appropriate level of seriousness. If players aren't making a legitimate attempt to win, then the game won't be fun. On the other hand, a game approached with too much of a cutthroat attitude and concern for victory will also not be enjoyable. The reason I don't play bridge is that most bridge players I've met take the whole thing far too seriously for my taste.
