A good place to start looking for jazz information on the Web is the Yahoo jazz page
My favorite musician is Miles Davis. The man could rip your heart out with his horn, and he was always trying to expand the scope of what the music could be with landmark albums like The Birth of the Cool, Kind of Blue, and In a Silent Way.
There are many others that I admire, among them John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Bill Evans, John McLaughlin, Jim Hall, Bela Fleck , Thelonius Monk, Wayne Shorter, Count Basie, Bill Frisell, and many, many others.
The truly great thing about jazz is improvisation. There is no other form of music that is so much like having someone sit down and talk with you. And inherent in improvisation is the chance for failure, the risk that is so wonderful in the music. One doesn't know exactly what's going to happen, but just has to deal with it as it does. Someday I hope to be able to speak the improvisational tongue.
